Woodlander Rock Star – Woodlander Stud British Warmblood

A good looking British Warm Blood Stallion with the all important look at me presence.  He is very powerful  stallion, and yet entirely contained, and now competing with the Eilbergs at Grand Prix. He has the wonderful, and covetable, ability to move from an expressive passage full of power and elevation into a relaxed walk across the arena and back to show some passage with so much lift and rhythm that you cannot help but be truly impressed;: Not his temperament which allows such a calm approach to a contained jet power driven performance. In the spring of 2013 Lynne Crowden had commented the she was looking forward to his move into the 70’s and he has transitioned seamlessly gaining over 70% at Lemieux National Championships in 2013 and has, since, taken respectable points at all his outings, building on his great success on the 2009 Success on the Sunshine Tour where he won all nine of his classes.  His 2012 seson saw his move into FEI Inter II competition and he took the reserve National Champion that year too. These results were predicted by his grading judges who foresaw an international career ahead of him.

There is no doubt that he is being favoured as a dressage stallion to date with 2 good looking offspring at the 2014 Futuity  as both as sire and dam sire and again in the 2013 Futurity awards with 4 progeny put forward for dressage grading (as sire of and dam sire). Woodlander Rockstar gained a certificate of merit at the Futurity Dressage yearling in 2012 and It was in 2011  that Woodalnder Rock Music came before the judges and he set the bar high for his siblings to follow.

An early foal by Woodlander Rockstar, Woodlander Rapido, campaigned so ably by Annette Ruth Davis-Green is now competing at FEI Inter 1 and PSG and has 368 points at the time of writing and has gained points at every outing over the last tow years.

Woodlander Studs Woodlander Rockstar is by Rotspon/Rubenstein 1 x Anatalia

Woodlander Rockstars’ Sire Sire Rotspon by Rubinsein 1 x state premium mare Antalia was known and admired for his great temperament too, making training such a pleasure  and productive. His good sloping shoulder and elegantly long neck, and of course his sleek jet black colouring are also features which Woodlander Rockstar and his progeny are carrying through. His Grand Sire Rubenstein 1 was prodigiously successful as a performance horse with 40 winds at Grand Prix and he was also a member of the gold winning team at the 1996 Olympics. With 89 State Premium mares and 66 approved stallions.

Dam St Premium Savannah/Sandro x Lollipop

Woodlander Roackstars’ State Premium dam, Savannah, (San Paolo mare) sadly passed on in 2012 but she was a prodigious mare. Her own temperament was “fiery” as Lynne Crowden said in the lovely obituary she wrote for this Woodlander foundation mare which she had bought with the help of hermother. However her offspring have demonstrated again and again just why they are so popular because they are so “ridable” her last two foals have been secured by Maria & Michael Eiberg; certainly a sign of the quality of her progeny. Two embryo transfer foals where born of her. One, Supertramp, has progeny already proving their quality successfully at the Futurity Awards. Savannah, at her own gradings, had impressive scoring in her jumping test and undoubtedly it is her abilities which also pass to Woodlander Rockstars’ Progeny who are coming on to the competitive scene in all disciplines.

I have saved his other successful progeny for another blog…there are just so many!

Medal Mare Woodlander Repartee (2005) – Foal Champion 2005

Woodlander Rallentissez (2006) – Dressage horse, Mare Performance Test Champion

Penhaligon Rockstein (2006) – High Scoring Young Dressage Horse Woodlander Rapido (2006) – Foal Champion 2006 Finalist Shearwater Nationals 2010 & 2011

Show Jumping Stallion Babeleh

Show Jumping Stallion Review: Babeleh

For Breeders Looking to Improve Performance with a Show Jumping Stallion: Balebeh offers concessions to Grade A mares.

For those breeding to improve performance in show jumping the stallion Balenbeh is a handsome, compact, well made Selle Italiono with a good shoulder slope and humorous length giving him a good shape over a fence. Now campaigned by Emma Jowsey here in the UK.

Standing at Ballinmore Stud in Yorkshire this lovely show jumping performance stallion has already proved his genetics with offspring competing in the international arena. As a young sire his progeny included A Brok a chestnut KWPN 2005 gelding15 currently competing at a 1.50m level with Rein Pill, and the KWPN Registered Bay Stallion Abaldo.

Bred in Holland by Alessandro Pellegrini, an internationally recognised Show Jumping Breeder, who has bred and produced top show jumpers for more than 20 years. Balebeh was Graded and Approved with the Zangersheide stud as a 4 year old Stallion and was 5th at the Dutch National Stallion Championships. He is also a Graded AES Stallion and has been awarded the Silver Stallion Medal with the BSJA.

His Show Jumping career was started in Italy at 6 years old and he has competed at CSI 4* Level, jumping here in the UK and in Italy.

Babelehs’ own show jumping genetics are assured. His sire is the Olympic stallion Baloubet du Rouet . Baloubet du Rouet is a 3 times World Champion Show Jumping Stallion with 2 gold medals and an Olympic Team Bronze. And this line comes from Galbouet by Alme, also an Olympic stallion, winning team gold at the World Show Jumping Championships in 1982.

His dam Tallisman Girl (Lucky boy xx. ) has also bred Millemiglia (2001) who is already successfully campaigned by the Italian International Show Jumper Filippo Moyersoen. Another relation from Alessandro Pellegrinis’ stable is Adwana (Lucky Boy/Lucky Boy xx) is campaigned by International Show Jumper, turned Eventer, Juan Carlos Garcia.

Lucky Boy XX has 27 approved stallions to his name and is clearly one of the key foundation stallions of the modern Show Jumper.

This well made show jumping stallion, Balebeh, has a neat, powerful jump. He is an agile stallion with plenty of power and yet has a surprisingly long stride, which is why he has been successful on the international tracks. He also has the best of temperaments, not only to cope with the stresses of a show jumping career but also one which makes him a dream to handle at home.

For Breeders looking for an excellent stallion which offers good value this show jumping improver stallion has a Stallion Profile on Horse Scout and offers concessions to Grade A Show Jumping Mares.

Timolin - British Bred Futurity Elite Stallion

A Futurity Breeding Elite Stallion: Timolin

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Timolin stands at Catherston Stud. With his first crop of foals born this year Timolin has set a high bench mark on the Futurity Breeding  stage for his offspring.

Timolin A Futurity Breeding Elite Stallion steps into the competitive arena as Catherston Studs rising star, moves on from this three Futurity  Breeding Elite Gradings to start his competitive career.

Catherston Stud, surely, could not be more pleased, Timolin is already proving himself  and has  the important championship qualifiers under his belt.

With an assured future as an imporver stallion this young stallion the head turning presence and superior gaits and build of his dressage pedigree and the jump and ground covering canter to produce not only dressage progeny but is expected to sire horses to event as well.

British Breeding Futurity Grading Awards

It must be thrilling beyond words to see a horse that you have bred gain his third Futuriy Elite Grading and the Catherston Stud (he property of Mr & Mrs A G Loriston-Clarke, Lizzie Murray and Hilary Davey) acquired this fabulous young stallion in February this year. Timolin, Graded with SHB-GB & BWBS, is already a father with his first stock foaling this year. Timolin, who is scheduled to go for Sports Horse grading this October, has “a charming Character and loves showing off” says Anne Dicker who manages the Catherston Stud. This year Timolin has started his competitive career and has qualified for both the National Dressage Championships in the Shearwater Potential International Dressage Horse 4 year olds and for the Albion Saddlemakers Young Dressage Horse of the Future 2015 Championships which take place at Badminton at the end of July. So not long until we see him sparkle, but before that he has joined Sports Horse Breeding GB Stallion Parade where, Catehrston say, he took the whole thing in his stride and is building a veritable fan club following.

The next crop of Futurity Breeding Super Stars?

By May Timolin had had four babies all of whom seem to have inherited his good looks and conformation and their sire was out winning the Blue Chip Sports Horse Qualifier. Horse Scout are looking forward to seeing some facebook updates on the Timolin Babies.

Timolins breeding has a great gene pool and the Futurity gradings are all credit to his breeding. Timolins Sire Totilas was a super star (and still is) of the dressage world. His results record with the FEI had 12 wins in 12 outings under Matthias Alexander Rath where he is for the most part outshining his nearest competitor by four or five full marks! An incredible dressage stallion. Born in 2000 he was competing at Grand Prix with Edward Gal by the age of nine and at 15 is still the king of the circuit whenever he competes. He was the first horse ever to score over 90in a dressage competition. His FEI record speaks for its self; a total of 45 1st places in 53 FEI Dressage competitions with three world cup Gold Medals with Edward Gal. “He has taken the sport to a whole new level.” Said Anne Gribbons (2010) of this record breaking horse the technical dressage advisor to the USEF. In his first year at stud he generated fees of nearly €1.4 million. With an embryo sold for 32,000 Euro in 2010.

Whilst there has been controversy over the methods employed in his training, this does not detract from the fact that he has been hugely successful and deservedly reigns supreme in the stallion rankings. Totilas, himself a KWPN Dressage Stallion, is jet black, standing a full 17.1hh he is just a little taller than his sire Gribaldi (Trakhener), and sports four short white socks (a particular feature on both his sire and dams line) as opposed to his fathers two, although his snip is very small in comparison Garibaldi and Totilas look remarkably like each other and of course Garibaldi was also an Olympic Dressage Stallion. Totilas Dam bred 7 offspring four of whom were by Gribaldi. Her early offspring Platini and Ramon where also very successfully campaigned in the dressage arena .

Timolins Dam Samira (also owned by Aram Gregory who rides for Hong Kong) was a Grand Prix horse herself campaigned with Jane Gregory (his wife who sadly died in 2011 was an Olympic Champion twice)). She stood an enormous full 18hh and her dam bred three proven performance offspring who compete/d in Germany. However her Sire Sion was a very successful general purpose stallion with offspring competing at Dressage, Eventing and Show Jumping as did his sire Sultan.

Timolin is certainly set to be a star of the future and Catherston Stud must be thrilled with their purchase. Horse Scout is shortly to publish an interview with Jennie Loriston Clarke where she will talk about Timolin and his future. I know Horse Scout readers will be looking forward to this.

Horse Scout are so impressed with the lovely horse that we have already blogged about him three times. Find out more about Timolin on his Horse Scout Stallion Profile page or read up on his news articles on the Horse Scout Blog.

Samara fly Dual Purpose Stallion

Dual Purpose Stallion the Skewbald Tobiano Samara Fly

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

An eye catching and coloured Dual Purpose performance stallion Samara Fly standing at Longacres Stud

Samara Flys’ credentials as a Dual Purpose Stallion

Samara Fly carries his 17.0hh with powerful athleticism. Owned by Mandy Sanderson, Samara Fly is a Dual Purpose Anglo European Registered Sports Horse with a passport full of ticks in the right boxes.  His pedigree Sambertino KWPN (Samber ex Illustra), Dam: Annie XVIII SHB(GB) (Tullibards Shakespeare ex Grange Girl Pet) back up his performance potential..

However, its not just performance that matters to breeders and temperament is often key to stallion choice.  This quiet, companionable and highly trainable stallion lives on a mixed yard and hacks out on the moors at home from the Longacres Stud.

His “clients” are obviously very happy with their offspring and this is more than backed up by the number of breeders posting up to Samara Flys’ “facebook” page.  What has been very interesting is the obvious stamp of Samara Fly on his offspring: They do, to a man, seem to stand well on all four corners with good shape to their bodies and well set heads and necks. Interestingly, they are, bar a very few, all coloured and most carry the widened blaze over the nostrils.  The over arching impression though is one of interest in the camera!! Something their father is not shy of either.

Samara Fly is fully graded with both CHAPS UK and ISPA (now LHI). The Irish Sports Horse grading thorough his dams line as well as a fully licensed stallion with the Zfdp (Zuchtverband fuer deutsche Pferde e. V.) where he was the youngest UK stallion, at the time, to receive this grading. His grandsire the Skewbald KWPN Samber was not only a very useful jumping horse but also a Grand Prix dressage horse.

In 2011 he received his full AES (Anglo European Studbook) grading as a Dressage Stallion.  Indeed another first for this lovely coloured stallion.

Samara Fly is Dual Purpose in the Judges Eyes

His judges would, it seems agree with his usefulness as a dual purpose horse. In the same year he qualified for Badminton Young Dressage Horse gaining a 7th at the finals, he also qualified for, and made a good account of himself, in the Summer Regionals that year and qualified for the Pet Plan Medium following this up with a qualification for the Winter Regionals too.

He has started his jumping career under British Show Jumping with Sarah Lundy and has also made successful appearances in the show ring.

As a performance horse Samara Fly is working well, and above average for a horse of his age. Campaigned from Novice up to PSG by YGB rider Alex C Ingoe-Topham under Michael Eiberg since 2010. Michael has been a supporter of this horses career and who firmly believed that this lovely horse would go to Grand Prix (and I have no doubt he was right!) said;

So much upward movement, the like I have never seen in a Coloured Horse ! …”He is the Coloured horse of the future…The one to Watch !!”

The ride is now with Hannah Doggett who has upped his game, and his success record since April this year. His results are nothing less than impressive.  Competing at Advanced Medium and Prix Saint Georges he has taken a ribbon at every show so far with upwards of 665% at most outings and an impressive 67.3% at AM for the Summer Qualifier at Cockshot along with top slot on her other ride the Andalusian stallion Hortelano Cen in the Medium.

At the Hartpury Festival of Dressage Michael Eiberg must have been pleased to see Samara Fly with Hanna Hoggett in the Elite Stallion class where this young stallion performed well in a very strong field where the marks ranged from just touching 60 right up to the outstanding score by Micheal Eibergs’ ride with Woodlander Farouche at 0ver 77%.

Longacres Stud, who bred from Samara Fly as a 3 year old, have 33 of his progeny with the stud prefix Longacres. Samara fly has some 55 progeny now listed the first looking set to show the world how successful Samara Fly Progeny will be.

With his progeny featuring in the Futurity programs across all three disciplines he is proving himself a versatile performance improving dual purpose stallion and even only so few years in his ranking with BEF is already 7.77.

You can find out more about this attractive dual purpose performance stallion through his profile on horse Scout the website which connects breeding lines and professionals.

Stallions for Improving Performance Breeding: AJ’s Farbenfroh

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Improving performance through breeding means considering the merits of your own mare and that of the stallion.

To breed a successful performance horse or to improve a breeding line then considering the genetics, conformation and performance record of both the stallion and mare are key and the horses in their pedigree will indicate the quality of the fola to be produced.

Key indicators for improving performance breeding with confidence

When a breeder is able to comment on the consistent quality of the progeny of their stallions then you can be sure that the stallion is influencing  the outcome through his own breeding performance genetics.

“Brilliant” replied Karen Raine “They all are, he (sic AJ’s Farbenfroh) throws such amazing stock” said Country Farm Studs owner in response to a post from D.S (Langho) after her 3 year old AJ Knockout was placed 2nd at the Northcote BS young horse Show in June this year.

AJ’s Farbenfrohs’ young stock (the oldest are now 4 years old) are certainly looking well-made and with results like this it indicates that he is passing on his Show Jumping Genetics to his progeny.

AJ’s Farbenfroh performance breeding genetics

Kurt Smiths’ lovely chestnut stallion is from a line of super star performance breeding His Sire Forrester, himself an international grand prix show jumper is by For Pleasure (Olympic team golds and a purse of over a million euro) son of the foundation stallion Furioso, who bred 250 state registered broodmares and 50 licensed stallions on his sire Forresters dam line we find  Grannus,  who died in 1993, bred seven Olympic horses and more than 60 approved stallions.

AJ’s Farbenfroh is the only licenced son of Forrester (a cross that his breeder used often) who at the moment has 15 international performance horses listed out of 29 progeny on Horse Telex.

AJ’s Farbenfroh has himself already done well on the BSJA circuit and has a good clean shoulder action with good humorous angle and length, which is a bonus when considering improving performance breeding..

AJ’s Farbenfroh influence on colour breeding

Interstingly AJ’s Knockout is a Chestnut Westphalian with a full sister born the following year (AJS* Farbenfroh) and two of AJ’s Farbenfrohs’ own filly foals AJS Knockout and AJ’s Tecquila Knockout both registered with the AES as roan two out of three registered AES filies.

Maybe AJ’s Farbenfroh breeder Hartwig Rellensmann based in Munster, the heart of the Westphlian breeders country in Northern Germany knew that he would have the capacity to throw foals with the is colourful coat colouring; or perhaps it was a reference to Farbenfrohs’ eye catching white stockings.

Most of his stock, though, do seem to be bay, brown or chestnut with 8 out of 12 being colts.

AJ’s Farbenfroh, owned by Kurt Smith stands at Country farm stud who have a range of lovely stallions listed on the Horse Scout website.

Breeding for performance and temperament: Catherston Studs’ handsome and successful British Sports Horse Catherston Springsteen

For breeders looking for that “extra mile” they can’t go far wrong with the quality and performance of the handsome and very well made Catherston Springsteen who stands four square when Breeding Performance Horses. He is consistently producing quality performance stock which carry his temperament and presence into the competitive arena, which is why those in the know can say with absolute enthusiasm:

“What a star, mind you those Springsteen babies are worth going the extra mile for” said N.C.C. (27th May)

His first progeny, now rising six, are are proof of his ability to breed for performance. They are eventing successfully and competing in dressage, alongside others following on who are in the ribbons in Sports Horse and Young Event Horse classes at prestigious county level shows etc.  They are definitely proving themselves as class horses.

This international dressage stallion standing at the Catherston Stud is a champion British Sports Horse graded with the SHB-GB and the BWBS.

Catherston Springsteen; A Performance Stallion  for Breeding Performance Horses

This expressive and elegant British Sports Horse is eye catching and has the “look at me” so necessary in the show ring as well as in the dressage arena.  He is a stallion with an exceptional temperament which he passes on to his offspring, and breeders have been more than enthusiastic about this important character trait which Catherston Springsteen passes on.

His make is exemplary, and his conformation allows him to show his expressive, bold and elevated paces to their best with his lovely head complimented by his length of rein.

His own career has been well managed and he has been campaigned successfully not only by Jennie Loriston Clark but also  as part of the Junior Dressage squad with her granddaughter Charlotte Dicker. Long listed to be part of the squad last year, Charlotte is now part of the Junior Riders Prime Squad Team for GB with Catherston Springsteen and her beloved ride Sabatini.

Catherston Springsteens’ own performance breeding (Dutch Gold) his undoubtedly played a part (along with exceptional training) in his successful career on the dressage stage.

In 2003 he qualified for the finals of the Rhinegold Potential Dressage Horse at the European Championships at Hickstead and was also short listed for the World Breeding Championships for Young Horses.

By 2005 he had also qualified for the British Dressage National Championships at Advanced Medium and in the Prix St Georges.

At only 10 years old he won the Grand Prix to Music classes at the College Premier League and at the Wellington Premier League Shows, also taking 2nd in the Grand Prix Special at Wellington.

By 2007 he was proving his breeding performance with a series of important successes at Grand Prix competitions at National Level. After an injury, he took some time away from the competitive arena but stormed back in 2010 winning the Grand Prix Special at Swolle Stallion Show in Holland. Since this, he has qualified for the National Championships most years at Grand Prix taking respectable placing’s every time out, and now Charlotte Dicker is steering him to success for Great Britain.

Catherston Springsteen himself has a bold and careful jump, and his progeny show that he is passing this on with successful youngsters in the eventing field now competing at BE100 this season.

His older progeny Longstock Sinatra, bred by Jeanette Burtenshaw who has some 395 odd BD points (at the time of writing), has qualified for every year and progressed up the levels at the Regionals and last year qualified for the Winter Regionals at Advanced Medium level.

Catherston Springnut is catching up on the points, and is now consistently winning at Advanced Medium and has also qualified for Regionals as well as the Petplan Championships.

For breeders looking to identify a quality stallion and breed for performance next year, then Catherston Springsteen is definitely one to put on your list.

Amour G Tobiano Warmblood Stallion

Tobiano Warmblood Stallion: AMOUR G

Facebooktwitterredditpinterestlinkedinmail

Amour G: A key player at Team Torrent with Pippa Childerhouse in Norfolk, a Tobiano Warmblood Stallion; a star on the rise in the dressage arena.

Eye catching and successful in the competition arena, Amour G is a KWPN/Dutch Warmblood Tobiano Dressage Stallion standing 16.2hh.

There is no doubting his credentials to breed serious competition horses, but what went into breeding this Tobiano Warmblood Stallion?

Amour Gs’ Sire line Goshka Ringo, maternal grandson of Olympic Ferro and Purioso on the sire line, Purioso was the sire of Bonfire and Cocktail (sire of the 2006 KWPN Stallion of the year Jazz)

Purioso (son of Show jumping sire legend Furioso) produced three Olympic sons including Bonfire and Cocktail, who is the sire of Jazz, the 2006 KWPN stallion of the year.

His dams line is equally impressive with May Sherif sire of two progeny competing at the Soel Olympic Games in 1988.

Armour G is not just a pedigree. He has proved over and again that he has the presence and movement which is essential for a successful competitive career and also passes a strong stamp on his progeny. He also has a kind and gentle nature which makes him ideal for producing sensible riding horses for the amateur rider too. There is no denying that Armour G is so much more than a pretty face and a coloured coat!

As a Tobiano Warmblood competing as a Stallion in the dressage Arena, how does Amour G size up?

Amour G has both Olympic dressage and show jumping stars on both sides of his pedigree and these fantastic family members have influenced him and the way he is made. He has three loose, rhythmic elevated paces and a very good length of rein.

So maybe its no surprise that he was awarded Elite First Premiums for both Dressage AND show jumping. His lowest grading was 9 (out of 10).  His comments included very favourable remarks on his walk, his good hind leg, his scope and his switched on approach at his BEF grading.

He has been licensed with the AES, and graded with the SHB(GB) and WBS-UK in the Sports Horse Register (champion)

Amour G had a consistent dressage career to date and is now working well in  Advanced levels with impressive scores of up to 78.8%. He is aimed at PSG for this 2015 season with his new rider GB team member Nikki Crisp. Horse Scout wished them the very best in their new partnership and feels sure that the compliments from those judging him will continue along the same lines as previously. i.e. “a pleasure to judge!” “Impressive” and “A sure talent for the future”, and Horse Scout Blogger is sure the words of the Olympic Judge who described him as “world class” are not short of the mark, and Nikki Crisp certainly feels the same way about this lovely Tobiano Dressage Stallion.

Amour G has also competed under BSJA rules to Newcomers and also shows a bold but careful X-country flair. To cap it all he has also bee successful in the show ring where he has been lightly shown. International Jet Setter: All That Jazz by SS City Lights, is finding just the right note in his progeny.

The Anglo Arab All That Jazz is a handsome dark bay National Stallion Association Grade 1 Elite stallion. All That Jazz stands 16.2hh was imported to Biddesden Stud from Victoria in Australia as a colt. His sire is the Arab stallion SS City Lights who was bred in the USA and is nearly 16 hands. His dam is Belingo, an Australian Thoroughbred by Saulingo.

All That Jazz was always a tall colt with great scope to his stride. He has the softest and springiest of canters as all who have been lucky enough to ride him will attest.

He was taken through the ranks to advanced level in British Eventing by William Fox-Pitt and is a regular out in the field giving his riders some great days out. Number one fan Rory G attests that William Fox-Pitt “…rated All That Jazz’s canter as better than Tamarillos’”. (source: Samantha Clark for Eventing Nation published in the Arabian Horse magazine)

His foals have been successful in the show ring and have made a promising start in eventing their big strides and elegant steady head positions making them good rides across country.

All That Jazzs’ progeny are showing promise with:
Ajax  – Awarded the top marks for the two year old eventing section at the 2008 BEF Evaluations at Catherston.
