Son of Wavavoom, Woodlander Wild Child, followed his mother (Woodlander Farouche) into the record breaking books by being the highest scoring horse ever in the BEF Futurity when he took the Foal title.

Hanovarian Stallion Woodlander Wavavoom has power  and expression.  Woodlander Studs beautiful chestnut stallion has a wonderful temperament, power & paces. Woodlander Wavavoom has provided a real flag to wave for British Breeding. In 2010 and 2011, he qualified for every young horse Championship with scores of 8 and above and as a 4 year old was runner up in the Badminton Yong Horse Championships to Woodlander Farouche. 2011 saw him again as a finalist at the National Dressage Championships and the Reserve Champion Shearwater 5 year old. In 2012 he returned to Germany to complete his life approval with qualification for the German Bundeschampionat. As a six year old, he scored 86% at Advanced Medium. In 2010 he had only one foal and this was the Hanoverian Champion but in 2011, he surpassed himself by heading the stallion rankings for the BEF Futurity having presented 10 foals and achieved 6 Elites. Not surprisingly, his cross with Woodlander Farouche was the highest scoring horse ever for Futurity with 9.79. In 2012, he remained the highest scoring UK based stallion with more Elite Offspring and, once again, the top pony foal. In 2013, Wavavoom qualified for the summer and winter regionals at Medium and Advanced Medium, and unforgettably was the sire of two licensed sons: Woodlander Wild Child and Woodlander Wales – both of whom were double stallion Champions for Hannoverian, WBS-UK and SPSS. 2014 saw the start of his new partnership with Bobby Hayler where he qualified for Winters and achieved his AM scores well above 70%.

What makes a coloured horse coloured?…a lack of colour!

An explanation of Tobiano and skewbald

TOBIANO (Toh-bee-ah’no) appears to be white with large “spots” (or “patches”) of colour, often overlapping, on animals with a greater percentage of colour than white. Spots of colour, typically, originate from the head, chest, flank and buttuck, often including the tail. Legs are generally white, giving the appearance of a white horse with large or flowing spots of colour. Generally white crosses the centre of the back between the withers and tail.

OVERO (O-vairo) appears to be a coloured (where coloured is meant here to signify any other shade of coat than white) horse with white markings. The spots of white appear to be jagged and originate on the animal’s side or belly, spreading towards the neck, tail, legs and back. The colour (any other shade than white) appears to frame the white spots. An overo often has a dark tail, mane, legs and backline. Faces are often white. Some overos show dark legs with splashy white markings seemingly made up of round lacy white spots. The location of the white never crosses the backline.

Arkol by Argentinus has been much admired since winning the 4 year old class at The British Showjumping National Championship at the Scope Festival in 2011. He has since consistently won 5 year old classes at Arena UK, Addington and Scope. In 2013 Arkol has had three wins in the Six Year Old Tour in Valencia. He will be campaigned by Billy Twomey who considers him to have the talent and scope to be part of his top string of horses.

We know what a newborn foal needs to give them every chance of growing into a future superstar, and we ensure they receive it.

Our team of industry esteemed staff and purpose built facilities ensure that any stress is alleviated from broodmare owners at this exciting time.

Broodmares are stabled in our large foaling boxes all complete with CCTV installed, as well as our state of the art foaling alarm system.

The mares have daily turnout and are monitored 24hrs a day until foaling.

Once your mare has foaled we offer a programme of management tailored to their individual needs. Some foals are able to use our secure nursery paddocks as soon as 24 hours old, where others need to be more restricted for a little longer. These foal management decisions are based on a combination of our experience in raising foals, and the advice of our industry renowned vet Sarah Stoneham.

Sarah also offers a new foal package where a new foal will have an examination on the morning after their birth, and then an IgG test to make sure they have received sufficient immunity from the colostrum, and a tetanus antitoxin.

If you would like to send your mare to foal with us, we recommend that she arrives with enough time to be totally relaxed and at home in her new surroundings. Typically clients will bring mares a fortnight prior to her foaling date, but if the mare has a history of early foaling or can take a while to settle, arriving a month prior to her due date can be more suitable.

Timolin  is an elegant, light-footed stallion of exceptional quality showing outstanding paces with a lot of athleticism as is shown in his jumping ability. Heads turn where ever he walks with him eluding presence and natural self-carriage. He is thought to be a refining sire and is expected to produce quality foals for dressage and probably for eventing with his ground covering strides and great jumping ability. His temperament is ideal for both disciplines.

His Sire, Totilas was World and European Dressage Champion, the first horse to win all three available gold medals at a World Equestrian Games in 2010. His name is legendary and was the first dressage horse to top 90% at Grand Prix level and at that time held 3 world record scores.

His dam, the International Small Tour Dressage mare Samira, was ridden by Jane Gregory and is by the Dutch stallion Sion.

Timolin was presented at the BEF Futurity as a yearling in 2012 where he was awarded the Overall highest score of all Dressage Yearlings with a score of 9.38. A very good Elite score.

Are you thinking that an Arab may be the horse for you?  Have you seen them performing in the show ring or out on endurance rides.  For the rider who has a certain va va voom Arabs make great riding horses.  They are spirited and fun and full of character.

Cross bred arabs make really lovely riding horses where their hot natures can be somewhat tempered by the nature of the cross, although any cross will still have that spirited element to his character. The Arab (generally) would not be my choice as a first horse nor for anyone who is a nervous rider.  Its not that they are bad, not at all, but they are “fun” to ride, they are not called Hot Bloods for nothing!

A picture of physical perfection with unparalleled endurance and strength, Arabian horses are uniquely tied to the history of humankind. In fact, these hearty horses have been a human companion for close to 5,000 years. Once the favored mount of historical figures such as Genghis Kahn, Napoleon, and George Washington, modern Arabians continually gain the favor of horse enthusiasts the world over. Despite their widespread popularity, however, Arabians remain sleek, well-muscled, and intelligent with a gentle disposition that keeps them poised to remain our trusted companion well into the future.

Interesting Facts:

History & Origins:    Arabians are believed to be the oldest breed of riding horse. It is thought that early desert nomads first domesticated these horses from the wilds of the Middle East as early as 2500 B.C.

Size:   The breed standard lists 14.1 to 15.1 hands (57″ to 61″) high with allowances for horses over or under this height. Many modern Arabians, however, have been bred to stand between 15 and 16 hands (60″ to 64″) high due to breeder and personal preferences.

Color & Markings:    The Arabian Horse Association recognizes five purebred horse coat colors. The most prominent is bay. Other colors include gray, chestnut, black, and roan. Half-Arabians, derived from the crossing of a purebred with other breeds, may have additional coat colors. Purebreds may exhibit a sabino spotting pattern, in which white markings dress the upper legs, belly, or face. All Arabians, regardless of coat color, have black skin except under any white markings. This dark skin historically helped protect the breed from the hot desert sun.

Physical Appearance:         Traditionally classified as a smaller horse, Arabians are built for endurance in the most inhospitable environments. Their strength and balance stem from compact bodies with short backs, dense bones, and sound hooves. Their refined appearance is derived from a dished body, wedge-shaped head, large eyes and nostrils set against a small muzzle, arched neck, high tail carriage, and long, level croup. Interestingly, some Arabians have seventeen rather than eighteen pairs of ribs and five as opposed to six lumbar vertebrae.

Temperament:         Arabian horses are traditionally bred for speed and spirit. Hence they are classified as “hot-blooded.” However, these intelligent horses also have a history of living in close quarters with human families and have carried their disposition and sensitivities with them over the centuries. As a result, Arabians learn quickly and are responsive to well-trained riders. It is little surprise that Arabian stallions are one of the few breeds allowed to be shown by children under the age of 18 in most shows endorsed by the United States Equestrian Federation.

Unique Characteristics:     The popularity of Arabians stretches around the world and throughout time for a reason. Their versatility, speed, courage, endurance, intelligence, and responsiveness suits them for pleasure, competitions, film work, law enforcement, ranch life, and more. Similarly, their sleek lines and majestic beauty attracts the eye of any horse enthusiast. However, it is their friendly disposition and continual companionship over centuries of human existence that helps add familiarity to the mystique and romance of horses.

Stallion Review – William Funnels’ ride Billy Mexico

William Funnels’ ride Billy Mexico is by the Billy Stud AES / AWR Approved stallion Cevin Z. He is an exceptional young stallion starting his competitive career with William Funnell. He is showing huge ability, combined with an excellent temperament. Cevin Z his sire was bred by the prestigious Zangersheide Stud and carries double crosses in his pedigree of both Cor de la Bryere and Capitol I.

His pedigree sets him apart and combined with his talent and temperament ha has proven to be an ideal producer of high class sports horses, especially show jumpers and eventers.

His first crop of young stock were placed first and second at the Young Horse Championships in 2006. He has competed successfully with William Funnell at International level. His youngstock are achieving top class results in both show jumping and eventing at international level.

Bidorette the mother of Billy Mexico is a proven broodmare having produced numerous good foals, in particular the approved stallion Fervent, a proven sire who achieved over $20.00.00 in winnings and also Libro who jumped to Foxhunter level, with BSJA winnings of £974.00. Libro also excels as a dressage horse with 250 points and is working at advanced medium level.

This graded AES chestnut stallion has well proven progeny.  2008 was Billy Mexico’s first season at stud and as he was only a 3yr old the stud only covered six mares with him, but the crop have been outstanding.

William said “From what we have seen of Mexico’s progeny so far we are very excited about him as a breeding stallion. Considering we only covered the six mares the first year, all the offspring have shown his super technique and great brain”. Of the six, two were sold to Norway as 4yr olds and both have been consistently in the results.

Catherston Stud’s Timolin Scoops Futurity Award for the third time with the Billy Stud taking 3 young horse awards.

The 3 year Olds award went to Timolin, who was winning a Futurity award for the third time, bred by Aram Gregory, this colt is destined for a dressage and stud career, having recently been purchased by Catherston Stud. Other winners in the Futurity age awards are, Rosie Moreton-Deakin who picked up the foal award for breeding Fiderstar, a potential dressage prospect. Zoe Feeney collected the yearling award for Just Soda No Ice, a show jumping prospect. The two-year old award went to Summertime Blues bred by Lynne Crowden.

The Young Horse Awards for the three disciplines saw a range of breeders step forward to collect their awards and the Billy Stud collected the five year-old and seven year-old British Eventing Young Horse Breeders Medals On for Billy Walk On and Billy Cuckoo – and the five year-old showjumping award for Billy On Ice. Amongst the other winners was Sharon Bishop who now has three British Eventing Young Horse Breeders Medals as breeder of Parkfield Quintessential; the four year-old, five year-old and now six year-old winner of this prestigious award and River Rise Escarla took the five year-old dressage award, bred by Sarah Tyler Evans by the KWPN stallion Lord Leatherdale.

Dutch Gold retired at the end of 1992 having competed at Grand Prix level since 1985 and as a leading member of the British Team at the Seoul Olympics and the European Championships every year since 1985. Although more famous for his dressage, Dutch Gold has produced many very exciting eventers. Being ¾ Thoroughbred, he has all the speed and stamina required of today’s modern equine athlete.

Dutch Gold is suitable for crossing with all types of mares. He produces big, quality foals with substance, excellent temperaments and great presence. His stock inherit beautiful paces with swing and elasticity essential requirements for today’s competition horse. He has sired 2 BWBS graded stallions in Catherston Goldstorm and Dutch Dream (now exported to USA where he is competing very successfully in the dressage arena) and each of these have now sired their own graded sons in Catherston Gold Eagle (1998 Champion) and Catherston Dougal (Best British Bred – British Dressage National Championships as a 4 year old) respectively. Dutch Gold is the sire of Elite Stud Book mare Catherston Deal in Gold as well as the grandsire of 2 BWBS graded stallions.

Most notable of the progeny competing in 2000 was Tina’s Gold ridden by Lucinda Fredericks. In just half a season Tina’s Gold gained 152 points in Horse Trials and moved up to be ranked 27th in the top 100 horses in the world. He won Wilton Intermediate, was 4th at Brightling Daily Mail Advanced before taking 2nd place at Gatcombe Intermediate Championships. Tina’s Gold then went on to win Blair Castle CCI** and was 4th at Pau CCI*** thus qualifying for Badminton 2001.

Dutch Gold is proving to be a very highly influential Dam’s Sire. He is the Grand Sire on the Dams side of Olympic Eventer Borough Penny Z and the young Borough Free Flight as well as many others.
