This is a unique opportunity to buy a top young horse with good 3 star form who has the ability to medal at future championships. This exceptional horse has had a meteoric rise through her eventing career. Having started in Novice in April 2015, by June this year she had been selected to represent Ireland at the Rio Olympics. With two horses selected and given her relative inexperience, her jockey Padraig McCarthy opted to take his older horse to the games. She has not had a XC fault in any of her seven 3 star starts this year (although she had a technical elimination at Barbury where the jockey missed out a fence) and in most of these she has been double clear. She finished 2nd on her dressage score at Ballindenisk CCI3 in April, behind Pippa Funnell and Billy the Biz. Most recently she finished 12th at Boekelo with an uncharacteristic two fences down. Her 2015 results also include 4th at Le Pouget CCI2 and 2nd at Aldon CIC2. She is qualified for Badminton next year and should be a realistic contender for a medal at the 2017 European Championships. Bernadette is regularly producing dressage tests in the 40s at 3 star level but still has a great deal of improvement to come in this phase and in the opinion of team Ireland dressage coach, Ian Woodhead, should easily be breaking the 40 barrier next season. She is a consistently good show jumper and is fast, super straight and brave XC. “An absolute machine” is how Padraig described her after their recent XC round at Boekelo. “If only my stopwatch hadn’t stopped we would have comfortably made the time”. Bernadette has been a very tough, sound horse. She has good conformation and an easy way of going that should help her fulfil her undeniable talent through the years ahead. She was thoroughly vetted and x-rayed when she was purchased 18 months ago. She is incredibly easy to do and to handle and is a pleasure to be around. Bernadette is straight forward to ride and would also suit an ambitious young rider looking to win medals in Juniors / Young Riders before progressing to senior teams.
