Description

Many owners take the time to have their horses back, feet, teeth and saddles assessed, to ensure the horse is correct and comfortable, sometimes the impact of an imbalanced rider is overlooked.

Whether you ride for competition or pleasure, good posture is essential. This requires symmetry, flexibility and strength. The ability to balance on a horse involves a precise combination of muscles that hold posture and control joints to absorb and enhance the horse’s movement.

The pelvis is the foundation of the riding seat and due to falls, daily habits, sedentary jobs or poor posture, changes through the pelvis, spine, limbs and muscles can affect your balance, symmetry and ultimately the effectiveness of your aids.

Many riders present into clinic significantly crooked in the pelvis, holding tension through the shoulders and stiffness through the spinal column. New patients are often astounded at the extent of their body imbalances and how much straighter they feel after treatment.

At each treatment, I will assess the whole body whilst focussing on the structures involved in horse riding. This includes the pelvis and seat bones, numerous muscles including the core stabilisers; psoas and abdominals, hip rotators, lower limb and the shoulder girdle.

I use McTimoney Chiropractic adjustments which enable increased range of motion in your joints and deep muscle techniques to loosen muscles.  The aim is to improve your flexibility, straightness and ultimately enhance your riding ability and performance with your horse.
