Description

The Equine Therapist is owned and run by Clare Ellam who has had an extensive involvement with horses from an early age. Her experience is broad and covers a variety of disciplines including Racing, both Thoroughbreds and Arabs, as a trainer and also as a jockey.

In the early stages of her career, Clare developed a strong interest in the locomotive of the horse and realised that to get the best possible results the horses had to be in peak physical condition, both mentally and physically. This interest was furthered with additional research into thermal imaging, different types of equipment and different types of alternative therapies including McTimoney-Corley spinal manipulation.

Having worked on a yard that specialised in rehabilitation for racehorses, and horses that were not performing to their optimum level, Clare realised that thermal imaging provided an excellent way to identify heat anomalies within the horse’s anatomy, areas that often had symptoms but showed no visible sign of injury. Clare took this interest further and set up her own company, “The Inner Picture” and has been successfully carrying out thermal imaging inspections since 2004, with very many satisfied customers.

Realising that many of the problems that she was seeing from thermal imaging inspections could be treated by complementary therapy, Clare trained as a McTimoney-Corley spinal therapist and has also trained in Merishia massage working on trigger points and acupressure points. Clare uses a variety of complementary therapies with up to date equipment including laser and microcurrent treatments.

Clare's objective is to work closely with both performance and individually owned horses that are experiencing problems, and provide the most appropriate treatment to restore the horse back to optimum performance. All aspects of any therapy are discussed in full with the owners before any treatment is undertaken, and Clare is happy to work with the owners vet or farrier where appropriate.

The more we know about them, the more we can help our animals to achieve the greatest well being and fulfil their potential. From a family pony to a top level competition horse every animal can suffer pain and discomfort. In many cases the therapies that we offer can release tension and help horses regain their former health and performance at whatever level they may be at.
