Jill has over 40 years experience in the equine industry gaining her BHSAI in 1976.  Early in her career she received instruction from Vera Sarjeant who had owned Olympic Dressage horses and trained with Alois Podhasky, the renowned author and former Director of The Spanish Riding School.  During this time Jill learned an important concept in training - we are rarely in a neutral position in the way in which we affect the horse's musculo-skeletal system; we are either 'body building' or 'breaking down' structures depending on the method of training.  It is this concept that has shaped Jill's career and ethos leading her to qualifications in massage therapy, Equine Studies and Equine Science in which she now holds a Master's Degree from the University of Edinburgh. Her latest project is aimed at research into the use of Inertial Motion Sensor technology (EquiGait) to monitor soundness in competition horses throughout a season.  Sensor technology can register minor changes in gait and back symmetry which may be early indicators of stress and strain.  This information provides riders/trainers with the opportunity to adjust training programmes and manage the exercise/rest/exercise cycle - an important factor in maintaining longterm soundness and avoiding poor performance. This research programme is being mentored by Dr Thilo Pfau from the Royal Veterinary College.

A strong emphasis on 'restorative training' has led Jill into becoming an experienced rehabilitative therapist working alongside vets & physiotherapists to bring horses back into work following injury and surgery with a particular interest in neck and back dysfunction, low grade lameness and general poor performance issues.

We believe that a team approach can be of great benefit - especially for those cases where there is a lack of clear clinical diagnosis. To this end we are often required to assist other professionals who refer such cases to us when circumstances dictate. We have been in this situation on many occasions and have achieved successful outcomes with team input, and accordingly are always happy to work with other professionals who may already be involved with a horse's care.
