Description
Canadian Kelly McCarthy-Maine moved to London in 2005 to pursue a Masters at Goldsmiths College, University of London, working as a journalist for Horse&Rider magazine upon graduation. Kelly went freelance in 2012 to take a working-pupil position with Lucinda Fredericks, writing in the evenings, early in the morning and in her head as she swept, mucked out and rode.
After seven action-packed years working and learning alongside Lucinda, Kelly took on a lease of her own barn at the incredible facilities at Little Park, owned by Nicola Stahl-Camerer.
Kelly competes a string of her own horses up to 3* level, with the aim of one day representing Canada.
Kelly and her husband Shane also enjoy owning horses with riders Harry Meade, Gubby Leech and Lottie Faulkner, as well as managing a successful sport horse breeding program with the help of Tina Yarrow at Boveridge Farm and the team at West Kington Stud.

Junior Groom: Apprenticeship position
I grew up grooming for riders in Canada, the USA and Germany - now that I'm riding full-time, I need people in the barn concentrating on the day-to-day care of the horses.
I appreciate there are less glamorous aspects to the role of junior groom/apprentice - and try to balance those out by matching your contribution and effort with beautiful accommodation for live-in positions, world-class facilities, plenty of support and learning opportunities. I have a proven track record with apprenticeship programs, former apprentices have earned Distinctions in Horse Care as well gained their HGV and LGV truck licenses.
Here's what a former apprentice has to say:
"I came to Kelly with riding school experience and left two-years later at the end of my apprenticeship having earned Distinction on my Level 2 Apprenticeship in Horse Care. I had unlimited opportunities to learn - going to national and international events, training sessions and everything in between are very fond memories. The laughs we shared as we adventured around the countryside - and Europe - with the horses still make me smile. The confidence and skills I developed helped me to land my dream job at a riding centre, riding and producing ponies"
